This portfolio comprises photographs of various forms of disused transport which sit in yards waiting to learn their fate. Ted Campbell runs a bus restoration facility in California where I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph several times. Working largely alone, he will never reach the end of his work queue which extends to tens of vehicles and a huge amount of work on each one. I’ve seen completed restorations and they are truly spectacular. Not far away, John Fowlie’s yards contain many hundreds of classic and vintage vehicle for sale or for spares, in various stages of assembly. It makes a fascinating day for a photographer, and my thanks are due to both these gentlemen for their generosity in allowing me access. The photographs here are almost always of an interesting portion of a vehicle. I have not tried to document, but rather to seek out shapes, colours and textures that I find interesting or even beautiful.
