Erice is perched on the very tip of a mountain overlooking the north-west coast of Sicily. It pretty much rescued an otherwise disappointing tour of Sicily in early 2010. It's a stone-built town of great character with narrow streets, extravagantly cobbled. It is often atmospherically misty at night and in the mornings. This church, at one of the town gates, features a separate tower and a portico set very well forward so that it isn't lit like the main body of the church.
